Der ehemalige Tänzer Pierre Dulaine beschließt, den Kindern an öffentlichen New Yorker Schulen das Tanzen beizubringen. Das ehrgeizige Unterfangen scheitert jedoch an der Tatsache, dass die Kinder nicht daran interessiert sind, klassischen Gesellschaftstanz zu lernen. Dennoch gelingt es Dulaine, die Kinder für das Projekt zu begeistern und so entsteht ein vollkommen neuer Tanzstil, der klassische und moderne Elemente vereint.
